Rumbo
Is a new home for collaborations that accelerate community-centered climate resilience in Arizona. We convene experts in climate
adaptation and leaders in the public, private, philanthropic, and nonprofit sectors in order to remove obstacles to progress and reimagine our community’s response to climate change.
Rumbo is a Spanish word that typically means the road, direction, or course to a destination.
Much like the word itself, Rumbo is defined by the journey that we will take to arrive at our destination of healthy, safe, and climate-adapted communities rather than the destination itself.
Our journey centers impacted communities, cross-sector collaboration, and “resilience corridors” that strengthen climate adaptation across the region.

Through our research, we learned about vital efforts underway to respond to climate threats. Practitioners shared that their efforts are slowed by a lack of collaboration and the coalition building needed to accelerate adaptation. These important efforts to reduce carbon emissions and make our built and natural world more resilient are largely occurring in silos within academia, government, community-based groups, and the private sector.
Rumbo offers an alternative approach: A facilitated space where communities and leaders can gather, share ideas, and work together to design and lead a new, people-centered, climate-resilient future for Arizona. Rumbo’s role is to convene and coordinate participating groups and institutions, helping them make more progress more quickly through enhanced alignment and collaboration.
